TikTok is not built into pvdownloader. Support comes from yt-dlp, so nothing below applies until that engine is installed. The useful part of this guide is which links are expected to resolve, because half of the URL shapes yt-dlp lists for TikTok are currently marked broken.
The live table lives on the TikTok video downloader page. It is re-fetched from upstream on every build of the site. Treat it as a snapshot, not a promise: a row marked broken today can start working next month, and a working row can break.
What you need
pvdownloader, plus yt-dlp. The app installs and runs without the engine; you simply do not get TikTok until it is there.
On first run it offers to fetch yt-dlp from its official source with one click. If you already have a copy, that copy is used instead.
- yt-dlp — required. TikTok is not a native provider.
- FFmpeg — only if the format you choose needs merging or converting. The app tells you at that point.
pvdownloader asks before it fetches either one. Neither is bundled with the installer.
Step 1 — Add the yt-dlp engine
Accept the one-click offer, or install yt-dlp yourself beforehand. Updating it later is independent of updating the application.
Step 2 — Paste a link that matches a working extractor
The everyday case is a link to one video. yt-dlp’s main TikTok extractor is not marked broken, so a normal video URL is the shape to start with.

Sounds, tags and effects are the three not to expect anything from right now. No setting in pvdownloader repairs an extractor yt-dlp itself has flagged.
pvdownloader never asks for TikTok credentials and does not sign in. Publicly reachable video is the limit.
Step 3 — Choose a format and download
Pick from the formats the engine reports and start the job. The file is saved as served, with no re-encoding and nothing stamped onto it.
If a format needs FFmpeg, that request happens here, not up front.
Why the table is the page to re-read
The split above is the difference between a link that resolves and one that fails for reasons no retry will fix. It is also the split most likely to move.
When TikTok changes something, the fix comes from yt-dlp’s maintainers, not from a pvdownloader release. Update the engine. That is why the optional components are updatable on their own.
If you are unsure which kind of URL you have, paste it only after checking the TikTok downloader table. The status column is copied verbatim from yt-dlp.
A note on copyright
pvdownloader is a tool, and it does not decide what you are allowed to do with the result. Downloading a video does not grant you a licence to it.
A few situations where this is worth being careful:
- Your own uploads — no issue, and this is the single best way to keep a copy of work you have published.
- Creative Commons material — check the specific licence, because many CC variants still require attribution.
- Anything else — you need the rights holder’s permission, or a legal exception that applies where you live.
The app does not strip DRM, does not bypass paywalls, and cannot download content that the platform refuses to serve you.
